Information on Programs Offered:This program provides the knowledge and technology skills necessary for entry-level positions in professional business offices. Credit earned may be applied toward associate degree programs in administrative technology.The Business Management program at Briarwood College prepares students to enter the business environment and pursue a successful career in management. Emphasis is placed on developing the student's leadership qualities, effective management strategies, and critical thinking skills. Graduates of the Business Management program are qualified for a variety of management careers in small or large businesses, government agencies, or for further education leading to a baccalaureate degree.Briarwood’s Criminal Justice AAS degree program is designed for the student who is interested in career opportunities in Federal or State law enforcement agencies, correctional facilities, or private security. Specialized and general education coursework provides a broad education to assist the graduate in pursuit of further undergraduate or graduate education in the field of criminal justice. Emphasis is placed on practical application of criminal justice and correctional theories. Love to cook? Dream of opening your own restaurant? Briarwood’s Dental Hygiene AS program is designed to produce graduates who will satisfy employers’ demands for trained dental hygienists who are able to communicate effectively, use critical thinking skills, value diversity and teamwork, and are well-rounded, contributing members of society. It also works to prepare students for transfer to a baccalaureate program. The Dental Hygiene Program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation, a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education. Briarwood’s Funeral Service Management BS program introduces students to the fundamental business operations within the funeral service industry. The program will provide a practical foundation in business operations and managerial functions specific to the funeral service industries. The Bachelor in Funeral Service Degree will allow graduates a competitive edge to compete for entree level managerial positions. Briarwood College's Health Information Technology Program will prepare you to manage computerized health information systems and related procedures. The health information technician performs a vital role in managing today's health information processing systems. The program emphasizes information systems security and data confidentiality as required to start a career in hospitals, physician's offices, clinics, nursing homes, ambulatory and other medical or mental health facilities, as well as for pharmaceutical companies, educational institutions, government agencies and vendor firms. A degree in hospitality management is your first step towards a career as a manager in a hotel, restaurant, casino, spa, or resort. You'll learn the skills needed to hold a management position at a hospitality business, including hotels, resorts, restaurants, casinos, spas - all the places people go to enjoy themselves! The Executive Medical Assisting program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to adapt to a challenging, ever changing work environment. The curriculum is designed to prepare the student to think, to make decisions, to interact effectively, and to accurately perform the clinical and administrative skills needed in medical facilities.Briarwood’s Mortuary Science AAS program is designed to prepare the graduate for an entry-level position in the funeral service field. Training will consist of lecture, laboratory, and internship. At the completion of all course work and prior to graduation the student will be required to take the National Board Exam. The cost of the exam is the responsibility of the student. The mortuary science program at Briarwood College is accredited by The American Board of Funeral Service Education. Briarwood’s Occupational Therapy Assistant program prepares students for entry level practice that reflects the values and attitudes of the occupational therapy profession. The curriculum is designed to provide clinical onsite and hands on classroom instruction to optimize the learning experience of each student. This program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) c/o American Occupational Therapy Association, Inc. Briarwood’s Paralegal AAS program is designed to educate and train students to perform substantive legal work under the supervision of a practicing attorney. It requires all students to successfully complete various legal specialty courses, gaining knowledge of our legal system, the basic areas of law, methods of legal research and writing, and legal reasoning. The primary objective of the paralegal program is the development of occupational competence. Understanding and reasoning, rather than rote learning, are stressed. The program emphasizes the ethical work role of the paralegal as well as the limitations on the practice of law by non-lawyers.
